Vehicles in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Police stated they were alerted by a man who found a car in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state early analysis suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for information.

A senior political figure stated the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
